As citizens of the City, our family received an unwelcome notice yesterday. The notice said,
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER
Failure to follow this advisory could result in illness.
Recent water quality monitoring results showed the presence of coliform bacteria in the City distribution system. City is currently disinfecting the water distribution system. Therefore, the California Department of Health Services in conjunction with the City are advising all users to boil tap water or use bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution.
All tap water used for drinking or cooking should be boiled rapidly for at least 1 minute.
You will be notified when it is no longer necessary to boil the water or use bottled water. Until you are so notified, all drinking water obtained from City should be boiled or bottled water used for drinking/cooking purposes.
What the notice did not mention however was that is could take anywhere from 3 to 40 days to disinfect the water and the whole reason this happened was because some construction was being done and when they went to hook the sewage and water pipes back up, they switched them around.
So now my water smells odd and I have to boil it, oh joy. Good thing we buy our drinking water anyways, but that doesn't help with the shower situation.
